Rumor: I am a concerned parent who heard yesterday 9/22/09 that students from river head high school were planning on coming to Floyd with intentions to start a gang fight. Also that several Floyd high school students had concealed weapons on there bodies. There has been a strong police presence at the high school the past couple of days, is this because there is truth to this matter. I am so fed up.(Rumor from September 23rd, 2009)
Rumor: Was there a stabbing at the highschool on weds sept 23? There were police officers there and crime scene tape. (Rumor from September 24th, 2009)
District Response: There was no stabbing or any other crime committed. Police were at the school as a precautionary measure. Their presence was based on information received about a possible problem after school near school grounds involving both students and non-students.
Rumor: I have a question how come when you want to purchase ticket's to go see a play you have to walk to the Music Department to pick them up? They should sell them at the Front door. (Rumor from September 28th, 2009)
District Response: The tickets are sold in the Fine Arts Office if people want to buy tickets prior to the shows for accounting purposes. Tickets can also be purchased at the front door up to an hour before performances.
Rumor: I have recently heard that there will be no JV9 Baseball team this year. If it is true, that would be terrible. A lot of kids won’t be able to make the JV team, even if they are good. There will not be a lot of spots for 9th graders on a 10th grade team. Also, I wouldn't find it fair that every other sport has a JV9 team except baseball. Is this rumor true? (Rumor from October 6th, 2009)
District Response: This rumor is not true. There will be a JV9 Baseball team in the Spring of 2010..
Rumor: is it true that all children are charged the same price in the elm school for lunch if so can you tell us why the children are getting a small juice for kindergarten and 1st grade and the 4th and 5th graders get a bigger juice for the same price also I have not seen any change in the lunch the only thing changed is the wording of the menu where are the fresh veggies and fruit it’s still all canned .also my child has been asked several times if they want all the side dishes if I am paying for a lunch. I would like my child to get what they are paying for. (Rumor from September 22nd, 2009)
District Response: The issue regarding juice size has been addressed and all size juices are offered to students at every grade level.  As of October 1st, we are using only fresh or fresh frozen  fruits and vegetables in the meal program.  Every student is offered a hot vegetable at the point of serving, if they do not take the hot vegetable there are also raw vegetables (carrot sticks, celery sticks, etc) that they may take on their own.  Fresh salads and sandwiches are available daily if the student does not want the hot entrée.  In addition to the vegetables we are serving fresh fruit everyday (apples, apple slices, oranges, orange slices, fruit salad, etc) that the student can take as part of their meal as well.  Students must take a minimum of 3 and may take up to 5 components that are offered daily to constitute a full lunch meal.
Rumor: Hi, I was told recently that if a student has eighteen or more absences during the whole of the school year, they will not be allowed to attend the Prom. Is this or any other version of this true? My child is an asthmatic and misses full or partial days on occasion. She has come close to exceeding 18 absences in a school year for medical reasons for several years but remains an Honor student in any event. (Rumor from October 13th, 2009)
District Response: This rumor is true.  We are trying to combat "senioritis," the class with the worst attendance.  If a student has legitimate health issues that are verifiable, an exception may be made.
Rumor: I heard a rumor that you can check your High School student's assignments through the teacher eBoards. Whenever I check the eBoards it still gives me last year's information. Some teachers don't even have one. Are they going to be updated soon? (Rumor from October 14th, 2009)
District Response: Teachers are encouraged but not required to use e-boards. It is a valuable communication tool and those teachers who use e-boards and keep them updated are appreciated by parents.
